Learn About the Parish Council
What does the Parish Pastoral
Council do?
The parish council works to coordinate
the spiritual and physical needs of the parish. They provide input to the
pastor, parish staff and permanent committees on needs of the parish and how
those can be met. The parish council does not handle the budget for the
parish, that is done by the finance committee.
How are the members selected?
The members are selected by a
discernment process. Nominations are take in the spring of each year.
Those who are nominated are sent a letter inviting them to attend the
discernment which is typically held on a Saturday and lasts for about six hours.
During this time there are discussions on the purpose of the parish council,
future direction of the parish, needs of the parish and time for prayer and
reflections. Those there along with current members of the parish council
that are assisting with the discernment will select the new members of the
council.
Who are the members of the
council?
There are nine discerned members.
Each year three members are discerned to replace the members who have already
served three years. The chairs of committees within the parish are
permanent members of the council. The executive committee is selected from
among the discerned members by the council. They serve one year on the
executive committee. The past chair of the council also serves as a member
of the council and executive committee.
The marking d1 means first year of
discernment, d2 is second year of discernment and the d3 is third year
